What’s In A Name?

“Jeniffer” “Jennifer Bernadette Wang” ”Jen Wang”, of Disgrasian and now on XOJane, ponders the importance of (not) having a middle name.

I too am a Jennifer with NMN.  For years I wanted Elizabeth.  My immigrant parents tacked Jennifer in front of my Chinese (legal) name and created an unofficial middle name.

Speaking of name weirdness, when my Mom started dating her Scottish boyfriend she introduced her sister and brother-in-law by their unofficial American names.  It’s easier for Scottish boyfriend who always trips over our Chinese names.  What gets me is that Mom now refers to the couple as Wendy and Bill instead of Yoko and Lun-yan, their real names.  It sounds ridiculous to my ears.  Wendy and Bill are the country club couple who play golf and backgammon, not my librarian aunt and engineer uncle.  Get a grip, Mom!
