Happy Mom’s Day
Chic Mama HK with her newborn son and daughter (me). Clearly the pink rose was more fascinating than the blobby brother.
I look like a mascot for HoJo’s.

Happy Mom’s Day.
Within the little coal mining town of Pottsville, PA was a mini colony of recently emigrated Taiwanese doctors and their wives. The docs were in residency training. 4 babies were born in 1967, including baby bro HK (far right). Guess those docs were busy outside the hospital too…
Note that Mama HK is the most stylish in her red shift dress and Betty Draper coif.

Happy Mom’s Day
Toddler HK stubbornly refusing to step out of the flower bed until I plucked a blossom. Look how poised Mama Kitty is despite her daughter’s shenanigans.
At home I would clatter around in Mommy’s red high heels waiting for the day I’d own my own pair.

Happy Mom’s Day.
The first photo is of three generations: grandma, my aunt, and young cousin circa 1977.
The second photo is Grandma Kitty (glasses) with two of her daughters and four of her grandchildren circa 1977. I’m in the yellow T with “bunny ears”.

Mom’s Day Movie Recommendations by Hello Kitty

wthellokitty:

Mildred Pierce, the original 1945 Michael Curtiz film noir classic.  A mother, an apron, chicken and pies, gorgeous gams.  An ungrateful but unearthly beautiful daughter who has greed running through her icy veins. 40’s costume porn.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999 dir. Michael Patrick Jann).  Who is more delicious: trailer park boozing Ellen Barkin; stage monster mother extraordinaire Kirsty Alley; or mom substitute who “got some” Allison Janney?  Look quickly for Mindy Sterling AKA Frau Frabissina from Austin Powers.

Stella Dallas (1937 dir. King Vidor).  Miss Barbara Stanwyck sacrifices all for her sweet pure society daughter. ****SPOILER ALERT**** How can you not cry when is Stella standing outside in the rain watching the wedding, and being told to  move along by the neighborhood cop?

I Remember Mama (1948 dir. George Stevens). Irene Dunne.  <—That is reason enough to watch any film, but here she is not glamorous or cutesy. She doesn’t even purr, but she’s still full of spunk.  A tender film that should be a TCM Jr. Essentials selection (if it isn’t already) about an immigrant family in San Francisco.

The Manchurian Candidate (1962 dir. John Frankenheimer)  Heh heh, you know I have a wicked sense of humor, so indulge in this special tale of mother’s love.  And lord look out for that kiss! Raymond, how about a game of cards?

Movies I do NOT recommend: Terms of Endearment, Mommie Dearest, Luna, or Gypsy.  Those are seriously disturbed portraits of mothers.

“When I was young there were beatniks. Hippies. Punks. Gangsters. Now you’re a hacktivist. Which I would probably be if I was 20. Shuttin’ down MasterCard. But there’s no look to that lifestyle! Besides just wearing a bad outfit with bad posture. Has WikiLeaks caused a look? No! I’m mad about that. If your kid comes out of the bedroom and says he just shut down the government, it seems to me he should at least have an outfit for that.”
- John Waters on the sorry style of today’s rebels  (emphasis mine)

And people say Baltimore has no style.  Psh.

8 ways to spot Emotional Manipulation

1. There is no use in trying to be honest with an emotional manipulator. You make a statement and it will be turned around. Example: I am really angry that you forgot my birthday. Response - “It makes me feel sad that you would think I would forget your birthday,

Noise Annoys

Mama Kitty is sensitive to loud noise (a result of her second brain injury), and in her muddled mind is convinced the “inmates” are inviting friends to the rehab center/ nursing home for raucous parties.
She’s mostly blaming the Koreans.

Anomia or Freudian slip?

Mama Kitty referred to her fellow patients as “inmates”.
I know she wants to leave soon. And she still has trouble with vocab, but HAHAHA
